A massive mosaic which was the product of “For the Love of Qatar” collective art project launched on August 10 was unveiled at Doha Festival City yesterday. The monumental artwork saw the participation of mall-goers during the 10-day run of the project led by Qatari artists Radi Al Hajiri and Lina Al Ali.
The participants were asked to do an art piece in response to the question ‘What does Qatar mean to you?’ resulting to a stunning assortment of artworks revealing the variety of views of people from different age, backgrounds and nationalities.
“The common thread through all of the drawings submitted was love, and so we compiled this collage which showcases our founder’s home and the symbolic falcon. The message this piece conveys is that love is the source of our strength, and while we may be doves of peace we are also falcons protecting our country and the roots that our nation is founded on,” said Al Hajiri.
The collage will be on display at Doha Festival City as well as other locations around Qatar, including various museums. The art piece was an initiative by the ongoing Qatar Summer Festival (QSF) and ran from August 10 to 19. Organisers said earlier that the initiative was aimed at “providing a unique platform for artistic expression at QSF this year, especially with so many people seeking an avenue to express solidarity with Qatar and its people. Bringing local artists to areas with high footfall gives them a unique opportunity to interact with people, while at the same time enhancing the mall-goers’ experience.”
Held under the theme “Colour Your Summer,” QSF is a nationwide festival that celebrates the country’s family entertainment, retail and hospitality offerings. In its fourth edition, QSF 2017 is the longest stretching from Eid Al Fitr to Eid Al Adha.
