Qatar & UK discuss means of enhancing ties in legal matters
DOHA: Qatar International Court received the UK Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Ajay Sharma, where he was welcomed by Faisal bin Rashid Al Sahouti CEO of QICDRC.
During their meeting, they discussed means of enhancing the ties between the Qatar International Court and the United Kingdom in legal matters.
In this context, Al Sahouti gave a detailed explanation of the success of the State of Qatar’s attempt to establish its specialised judiciary through the establishment of the Qatar International Court, the first specialised court in Qatar to deal with commercial and investment disputes arising from international financial transactions, which operates through the Qatar Financial Centre.
Al Sahouti also discussed the judicial system of the Qatar International Court, the mechanism of its work, the nature of its proceedings and the manner of its consideration and the levels of litigation.
Ajay Sharma said: “I am delighted to visit the Qatar International Court which is playing an important role in attracting international businesses in Qatar. There is a long history of cooperation between the legal professions and judiciaries in both Qatar and the UK, and the Qatar International Court is a key element of this. The UK has a world-famous legal system and this is one of the UK’s greatest assets. I look forward to further expand the existing strong links with the Court”.
As part of the visit, Ajay Sharma visited the courtroom where he met with the Registry team at QICDRC who provided a brief overview of the new eCourt system and the high level of accessibility for parties without having to be present in the courtroom.
This feature contributes to saving time and money, as well as ensuring the speed of settling disputes and proceedings before the court. Such developments at the court demonstrates how QICDRC continuously aims to provide an attractive and safe legal environment for foreign businesses wishing to invest in Qatar.
