QSL Cup: Al Rayyan trounce Al Sadd
By Armstrong Vas / The Peninsula
A full-strength Al Rayyan trounced an experimental youth team of Al Sadd 5-1 in the QSL Cup Group B league match at Al Khor Stadium yesterday. Al Rayyan now have two wins from an equal number of matches. The Lions, who began their campaign in the QSL Cup with an emphatic 2-0 win over Al Alhi, now have six points in the six-team group.
Yesterday at Al Khor Stadium, Al Rayyan meant business from kick off and pressed the panic buttons in the Al Sadd ranks, which lacked the experience and the fire power of their rivals.
After keeping the young guns in the Al Sadd ranks guessing, Al Rayyan stuck in the 11th minute with Abderrazzaq Hamedallah heading home a free kick to give his team the lead.
Eight minutes later, Hamdallah struck again to make it 2-0 off a dead ball situation.
The striker’s 35-yard free kick landed into the back of the nets as a Al Sadd defender while trying to clear the ball away from the goal ended into his own goal.
Experienced striker Sebestian Soria joined the goal scoring feast by getting his name on the scorers list in the 38th minute.
Soria packed enough power behind his angular shot which eluded the leaping Meshaal Issa Barshm under Al Sadd goal, 3-0.
Al Rayyan could not add more goals in the first half going into the break with three goal lead.
In the second half, Al Rayyan added a fourth one with Mohssine Moutuali making no mistake from the penalty spot in the 59th minute.
The referee awarded the spot kick as Al Rayyan’s Hamedallah was adjudged to have brought down unfairly by an Al Sadd player.
Moutuali made no mistake from the spot sending the rival keeper the wrong way his try to take the score to 4-0 and make is increasingly difficult form Al Sadd to make a late surge back.
Al Sadd were penalized with a second spot kick in the 64th minute and this time it was substitute Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Harazi who slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 5-0 for Al Rayyan.
Al Rayyan got the penalty as Hamedallah was found to have been brought down by an Al Sadd player.
The Wolves managed to pull one back to salvage some pride in the 76th minute through a penalty conversion from Mashaal Qassim Al Shammari, 5-1.
Both the teams could not add more goals thereafter.
The next round matches will be held in November.
