Markhiya coach Yusef Adam is confident that his newly promoted side is capable of beating the drop in the QNB Stars League.
The vastly experienced Qatari tactician said it will be ‘challenge’ to stay put in the top tier division after gaining promotion from second division.
“It’s going to be a challenge for us this season to survive, especially with the league being reduced to twelve sides. However we are ready and I believe we will be competitive this season” Adam said in an interview with QSL online.
Adam has managed a host of sides in the league, and stressed that he is fully aware of what the players have to do to beat the drop.
“The players know that they have to step up, this is not like the second division. Thankfully the club has moved quickly, and we have brought the right players to make sure we play well in the QNB Stars League.” Whilst the Qatari coach also revealed his side is primed for their match against Al Sadd on Saturday evening at Al Arabi stadium.
“Our preparations went well in Bulgaria, and our friendly matches in Doha have also gone well.  We will do our best to give a strong performance against Al Sadd.”
Adam admitted that it will be a challenging season ahead for the promoted side.  “It will be a challenge, but a challenge that both me and the players are up to taking part in.”
Meanwhile, Umm Salal attacker Mahmoud Al-Mawas is confident that his side can repeat their form that saw them finish an impressive fifth place in the league standings last season.
“I think that our minimum goal is to match our finish last season at Umm Salal, and then look to finish higher. It’s a big ask, but nothing is impossible in football” Al Mawas said.
Al Mawas was crucial to Umm Salal last season, and the tricky attacker admitted that the side is fully prepared for the new campaign.
“Our training camp was successful and we had many good friendly matches, I hope we can now step up when it comes to the league games.”
“We have to start the season well and the first few games of the season will set the tempo for us. This is how it worked out last season, so we must do well against Al Kharaitiyat” noted the Syrian international.
Al Mawas revealed that he has a personal target with the club next season.
“I will be playing in the number ten role, but I am aiming to add more goals to my game. I hope to be one of the top goalscorer’s in the league this season.”
Umm Salal will play Al Kharaitiyat in their opening game of the QNB Stars League.
