Al Arabi attacker Mardik Mardikian is confident that he can fire his new side to glory ahead of the start of the 2017/2018 QNB Stars League (QSL) season.
The Syrian international said that moving to Al Arabi is a challenge for him.
“Moving to Al Arabi is a big challenge for me personally, I would like to thank the management for putting their faith in me. I believe that we can have a good season and do well in the league,” Mardikian said.
The Dream Team struggled at times last season, and looked disjointed in games.
However, Mardikian believes that his Arabi have now put this difficult period behind them and are confident in pressing on for the new QNB Stars League season.
“That was in the past and we are now fully focused on the league, we have done well in preseason and hope to continue this form.”
“Our preseason camp in Slovenia was great, we played well in our friendlies and we all worked hard as a team. The aim now will be to keep this up starting with our game against Al Sailiya” noted the striker.
Mardikian was the top scorer in the Jordanian league with Al Jazeera last term, and the Syrian international believes that he has the potential to do the same with Al Arabi.
“Of course every player is aiming to score in as many games as possible. What is truly important for me is that the team are successful only then will the individual awards will happen.”
Mardikian, who recently played in Syria’s 2-2 draw against Iran to seal a play-off spot in World Cup Qualification added that Al Arabi’s fans will be crucial if the side are to compete for trophies this season.
“It is always hard to win titles with any side, but we will need the support of our fans. This will be important if Arabi are to do well.”
Al Arabi are set to take on Al Sailiya in their opening game of the QNB Stars League season on Saturday evening.
