Kamble wins 2nd India Cup Golf Tournament
DOHA: Amidst great fanfare, the Head of Golf at the Indian Sports Center, Manoj Megchiani, kicked off the 2nd India Cup Golf Tournament at the Doha Golf Club over the weekend.
Thirty-six golfers participated in the event which was played on 2 different formats, strokeplay for low handicap golfers and scramble for high handicap golfers. Title sponsor of the event was LG Qatar and Co-sponsor was Homes R Us.
106.3FM Radio Olive & Radio Suno 91.7FM were the official media partners of the tournament. Rajesh Kamble overcame stiff competition to emerge victorious in the competition. Yohann Pedder was declared runner-up. The ‘best gross’ prize was won by veteran golfer, Fazal Kazi, and Arnav Jain was the runner-up.
Father—son duo of Subhash & Akshay Randeva won the scramble competition while Joe Coutinho and Kunal Bhatia won the second place. Tasnim Kazi won the ‘longest drive’, Sanjeev Gupta won the ‘longest putt’ and Kumar Natarajan won the ‘closest to rope’ and Arnab Dutta won the ‘closest to pin’ awards.
The evening proceedings started with a cultural show by Tabla Maestro Santosh Kulkarni accompanied by violin and keyboard.
C V Rappai, Director & CEO of LG Qatar, and Ramesh Bulchandani, GM of Homes r Us, hosted a prize distribution function and gala dinner for all golfers and their families. They gave away prizes to the winners.
Indian Ambassador P Kumaran, who is an avid golfer, himself participated in the tournament and gave away the winner’s trophy to Kamble.
Nilangshu Dey, President of Indian Sports Centre, addressed the gathering and expressed satisfaction over the new initiative in the sport of golf by Indian Sports Centre. Sanjay Jain was the Tournament Director and he was assisted by Ravi Shankar & PK Mathew.
ISC also recognised 20 new Indian golfers who are currently being trained by PGA coach Chris Nichols at the Doha Golf Club.
