AZF concludes Ramadan Sports Festival

DOHA: Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF) marked the conclusion of its seventh Ramadan Sports Festival in a grand award ceremony to celebrate the winners in seven team sports competitions.
Awards were given to participants in the men’s and women’s volleyball tournament, and men’s basketball, indoor hockey, cricket and football competitions, and the indoor futsal tournament, organised for Aspire Zone Foundation’s employees.
Nearly 1000 male and female participants from 79 teams took part in 11 sports tournaments making the event a Qatar’s biggest Ramadan event. More than 40 participants took part in Aspire Zone Foundation’s sporting competitions for people with special needs.
Talking to The Peninsula, Al Anoud Al Misnad, Acting Head of Events at AZF said: “Looking at the increase of participants in this edition reflects active participation during the Holy month of Ramadan. Every year we come up with new sports and activities during this month. We are pleased to see all the winners under one roof, we hope to see more participants next year.”
In his welcoming remarks, Abdulla Nasser Al Naemi, Director General of Aspire Logistics, said: “I am delighted to be with you today to celebrate the seventh Ramadan Sports Festival and the awarding of the winning teams. The 12-day Festival saw incredible participation from different segments and communities in the society, including men, women, juniors and people with special needs, for whom we allocated two events as part of Aspire Zone Foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.”
The awarding ceremony kicked off with a Table Tennis competition between Qatar’s national table tennis player and Aspire Academy’s graduate, Abdulrahman Al Najjar, against Ismail Yousef, one of the participants at the table tennis for people with special needs competition. After the competition, Al Najjar dedicated his national shirt to Ismail.
Royal Phoenix team won first place at the Men’s Cricket tournament, followed by the KCC team in second place. Youssef Jeham Alkuwari, President of the Qatar Rugby, Hockey and Cricket Federation (QRHCF), and Abdulla Al Khater, Chairman of the Ramadan Sports Festival 2018’s organising committee, awarded the winners.
Aspire Logistics team won first place at the Staff Futsal tournament, followed by Veterans in second place and Inspirers in third place.
On the sidelines of the awarding ceremony, Aspire Zone Foundation engaged the audience with questions about the festival and awarding ceremony as well as basketball scoring competitions. Winners received vouchers and free invitations from the event’s sponsors.
