Al Markhiya stun Al Sadd in QSL Cup

The Peninsula

Al Markhiya yesterday scored once in each half to beat Al Sadd 2-0 at Al Duhail Stadium on what was day two of the QSL Cup.
Mohamed Salah Elneel (20) and Nasser Al Nasr (90 +2) scored the goals for Al Markhiya who impressed with their attacking game.
Yesterday’s match-up between the two sides - a repeat of the opening game of the QNB Stars League three weeks ago - kicked off on a fast pace as Al Markhiya attacked Al Sadd from the first minute.
However, it was Al Markhiya who took the lead in the 20th minute. Ali Mujbel spotted Mohamed Salah Elneel inside the Al Sadd box. Elneel produced a spectacular airborne header to deflect the ball into the Al Sadd net.
In injury time, Nasser Al Nasr sealed Al Markhiya’s fantastic 2-0 win when he scored the second goal. Ahmed Salem, after picking up a shot corner kick cross, slipped the ball to Al Nasr who fired home from close range.
In another clash yesterday, Al Rayyan produced a quality game to beat Al Ahli 2-0 to start their QSL Cup campaign on a winning note.
Sebastian Soria played pivotal role as Al Rayyan overcame last week’s loss to Al Duhail with a spirited display at Al Shamal Stadium.
Soria (17) and Abdulrahman Al Korbi (67) scored the goals for Al Rayyan.
Al Rayyan opened the scoring through veteran striker Soria in the 17th minute at Al Shamal Stadium.
Mohsin Hassan chipped in a cross to Soria who charged into Al Ahli box before calmly slotting the ball into the net.
Soria was the man again as Al Rayyan doubled their lead in the 67th minute. After hoodwinking his marker, Soria slipped a low ball to Al Korbi who easily deflected the ball into the net from close range. Al Korbi had to produce a sliding dive to convert the ball into the net.  Meanwhile, a well-taken penalty helped Umm Salal score first against Al Arabi at Al Wakrah Stadium as Ibrahim Ndiaya was on target in the 74th minute as the match ended in an one-all draw.
Abdulrahman Mansour of Al Arabi got the equaliser two minutes from time on what was day two of the QSL Cup.
